There are a large amount of active imposters currently running around pretending to be me, HHN, and a couple other frequent market users. I have seen at least 6-7 reports recently involving people who were scammed, or close to it, by these imposter MSN's. In these instances, I think that it should be allowed to go about getting someone with the ability to freeze an imposter MSN to do so. I know this is somewhat sketchy, but in this case I dont see why it would be an issue.

Cheers. Just figure if these assholes do it to us, why not do the community some good and shut down the imposters that are scamming newcomers.

Absolutely not. Imagine what people would if they had this in their possession.

It's not hard to gain access to your MSN if you're frozen. If you need help, let me know. I also wrote a guide on it awhile ago.

We should also allow Ddosers for people who scam. Yeah, lets dose everybody who scams since the mods have their ips.

    It's the same logic...

Also, to add to what Hahanerd says, it takes me 20 seconds to unfreeze my msn. Frozen msn; not really a big deal.

You guys do realize that you are completely off topic? I dont care about my MSN being frozen, I care about freezing an MSN that has no other sole purpose than to scam users by impersonating a trusted member.

Either way, it's still owning a MSN freezer and a freezer isn't limited to just freezing one person. It can potentially be used in scams, etc. I'm pretty sure you know what I'm talking about.

I know... But a frozen msn can be unfrozen in 20seconds... Meaning, it really does nothing to the impersonator. And only affects them when they're signed out, if they're signed in - it does nothing to them (I think).

You don't need to be a superhero and stop the impostors personally. Again, if they're not wise enough to request a PM, then the burden is no longer on you.

This idea would great way too much of a gray area and you can't prove what's for good and what's for bad.

    This.

It's usually very easy to tell weather you are talking to an impersonator or not, and also they need to learn to always ask for a private message when trading.

Rather then this being implemented into our rules I think we should rather make it so that you must have a pm from the user when making scam reports verifying it's them. This will encourage people to actually take the time to get a private message from the person they are talking to, and if they don't they would be rather dumb.

I think that with implying this lenience on the rules we would be like just all the other malicious people that freeze msn's whether we are doing it for a reason such as this or not.

I definitely agree, just there are brand new users to the site that are typically the ones falling victims to these scams, simply because they dont know any better.

Yea, I see what you are saying. The only thing is that I don't think that this would be the best way to handle the situation. Don't get me wrong the people that are impersonating others are real assholes, but I don't think freezing their msn's would be the best solution. I guess you could kind of say it's like fighting fire with fire. Also my fear would be that they would get pissed at you for actually freezing their msn, and that would just encourage them to make more and more accounts.

So you trade a newer user and since there was no PM its a free token to scam?

Rule or not, I will still ban you if a scam is proven.

Yea I guess your right. We are getting off-topic though. This thread is supposed to be about whether or not we should allow people to use programs to freeze others msn's (under certain circumstances of course).

Np man, I just feel very strongly about that never becoming a rule.

OT - We don't allow counter scamming because we as mods and a community would like to know/think that we are above those types of people. The same goes for counter MSN Freezing. Don't go down to a lower level.

I dont really see it as counter scamming or stooping to that level, because you are only intending to destroy an email whose only reason to exist is for scamming others. I am not suggesting that he freeze the person who is trying to scam's MSN, simply the imposter MSN's themselves, as nothing but good will come from that.

I agree with Plznate on this. When new users are getting scammed by imposters, it hurts a huge array of people. It hurts the real person, because he/she isn't getting that business anymore. It also hurts Sythe as a whole, their rep will consistently go down.

And they'll take 30 seconds to create a new msn and the problem comes right back within 5 minutes.

Theres certain things we don't allow our members to do and its for a reason.
