[Guide] How to detect and delete a virus using safe mode

    Safe mode:

    Tips:

    Starting out:
Hello, and welcome to my guide. This guide is going to explain how to get rid of viruses on your computer that your virus scanner can’t delete because it says the program is in use.

Have you ever scanned your computer and found that there is a virus on your computer? You press delete to remove it but your virus scanner says it can't delete it because the virus is in use? Well here a detailed guide on how you beat the virus and delete it for good.

    Safe mode:

First, we are to start off by putting the computer into safe mode.
Safe mode turns on the computer starting up only the essentials of the computer so that the virus or what you’re deleting won’t be in use.

Steps of putting the computer into safe mode:
    1. Power down the computer
    2. Turn back on the computer
    3. During the starting up process press and hold f8 to go into a screen that looks like this [IMG]
    4. Select safe mode using the arrow keys on your keyboard and hit enter.

Now your computer should start up like normal.
If you have accounts on your computer you will need to sign into the administrator or the head of the computer

Now your computer should look something like this

Your screen may look different this is a picture of a windows 98 computer.

    Tracking the virus:
Now open up your virus scanner and scan your computer again. Wait for the full scan to be complete.

Then look for the path of the virus that the scanner has found for example in this picture [IMG]
The highlighted portion is the path.

Now open up my computer and it usually will be in the C: drive; so just open that and after every "\" there’s something new to click on for example.
c:\program files\AIM6\services. I would suggest clicking on the c: then click the program files folder then the AIM6 folder, and finally the services folder.

Once you have found the path of the virus follow it, but the last folder in the series (for the example above services) don't open it, but instead delete it.

It should then go into your recycle bin. Empty the bin, and then it is safe to power off your computer and restart it normally without using safe mode.

Log back into windows normally and scan your computer again. The virus should be gone and your computer is safe again!

    Tips:

-To prevent getting a virus do not download anything suspicious.
    - Before downloading programs right click it, and scan for viruses before you open it.
    - Do complete virus scan at least once a month. I would suggest doing one every week, do be safe.
    - If you think or know you have a virus don’t log into anything personal because it can be stolen. This includes RuneScape, Sythe, Paypal, or even MSN.

I hope you enjoyed my guide, please post and leave a comment or some advice. Also please rate this guide */10.

Yea, usually if you keep your virus software updated your scanner will detect every known virus. This should keep your computer safe and it will stop you from getting a hardcore virus.

Because when you turn on your computer the virus starts up, and you can't remove it because it is already in use.

If you use my guide, the virus will not start up therefore you can easily delete it.
